Merida, Mexico

Just got back from Mexico (I went there for the International Cosmic Ray Conference and presented a poster). The trip was a blast. I went there 2 days early with a friend and did some sightseeing. I'll let the pictures speak :) I took a lot more pictures than just these (~100) but these are the main structures you'll see on postcards, hehe.

Celestun (view from our hotel on the beach and flamingos)

Uxmal (Mayan ruin)

Chichen Itza (just voted as one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World)

Dzibilchaltun (Temple of the Seven Dolls, the door is aligned to equinox -> the Sun can be seen through both doors on that day)

Swimming in Cenote Samula (underground water, the tree root extends from above thru the cave and into the water. It was very refreshing to swim in it, lots of fishes)

In Arizona for the summer

I've been working in Arizona since May 1, went home once for a week inbetween the observing periods (no observing when it's full moon).  I finally get to go home next monday, yay!  But then I fly out to Mexico on friday for a conference until Jul 11.  Hmm let's see, 2 and a half months and I've only been home for less than 2 weeks!  I think my cats are going to forget about me .  I went hiking a few times here, nothing too exciting when you have to work 8pm-4am.  More pictures when I get back from Mexico

3.5 mile hike to Carrie Nation Mine.  It's abandoned and flooded.  The view of the valley on our way there is nice though.

new apartment

This is the paranoma view from the balcony of my new apartment, I get full view of the mountains and most of downtown (there's another building right in front that sort of blocks part of the view).  I'm still in the same apartment/condo complex, just one building over and a little more room :)

Here's the daytime view:

It's a slippery slope

Why is it that bad things always come together at the same time?

Spring/Summer Plans

Midterm is over and now it's only 2 more weeks till spring break.  I'm staying in Salt Lake for spring break because I want to work   May and June I'll be in Arizona again observing at the telescopes, then at the beginning of July I'm going to Mexico a week for the ICRC (International Cosmic Ray Conference).  I've submitted an abstract to present a poster, hopefully it'll be approved   From the looks of it, I'll probably go back to NJ to visit my parents at the beginning of August.

Life's pretty dull, just work and classes.  Went skiing a few times because we got tons of snow here (100" base layer of snow for the ski resorts here!).  I'm going skiing again this weekend   hope I'll improve enough to start going down intermediate runs.
